Parenting in the Digital Age Workshops – This is as close to “hands on” as you can get! We bring Macs, Windows computers, Xbox360, and the Playstation 3 to this workshop and teach you how to set up parental controls with a live demo of each.
You get a live demo, “best practices” and much more to help you keep your children safe as they navigate their online world.
Given the climate of today’s “always on” culture, we also walk you through dealing with those mobile communications devices… cellphones and tablets (iPad). We’ll show you some of the best software on the market to help you monitor younger children’s use of text and picture messaging, walk you through the tools that your cellphone service provider already offers and how best to utilize them and give you some “best practices” to keep your children safe as they navigate their digital communications world.
These workshops are provided free of charge to schools and their PTA/PTSA’s. The entire workshop runs approx. 3 hours, but in many cases, we tailor the on-site presentation to meet the time constraints of the parent/PTA organization hosting Digital Shepherds. This is generally done by providing an abbreviated 2 hour workshop in a small group setting (approx. 20 up to 50 persons) for moms and dads who are able to stay after they drop their children off to school that morning. We find mornings and weekends to be most effective in providing this service because, though presented in an easily digestible format, it is definitely a lot of information and the less computer savvy the parent taking the workshop the more intense it may feel. That is why we build large amounts of question and answer time into every presentation, no matter the duration. You’ve got questions, we’ve got solutions and we want you to leave our workshops feeling more competent and confident about guiding your child’s online experiences and keeping him/her from the worst the net has to offer.
