So, I wrote a post the other day about dads taking their daughters to tea (you do not have to look like the gentleman in the pic to do so! Lol) and had some great personal messages sent to me as a response to that post. Those responses inspired an idea. It was kind of timely because I was looking at all the social networking I’m involved with and feeling like there’s so much talk and not enough action. Not that talk is a bad thing at all, but I want more from my social media interactions. Then there are the investigative stories I’ve been doing for Fox and the young ladies who seem to be getting prayed upon so much these days whether it’s by sexting or internet problems like sextortion, and we’re back to the idea. Organize and mobilize dads from as many parts of the globe as possible with the focus being on building stronger relationships with our daughters through the age old past time of High Tea. Why Tea? Read HERE for the answer to that.
I look at what Mashable just did with their Social Media Day meet-ups and think, “why can’t us dads do this, but for the good of our families?” Why can’t we? Well, we can and we will. The idea is simple: August 28th, 2010 dads will unite in what is, I believe, the first Daddy/Daughter Tea Tweet Up. If you want to host an event in your area, make the arrangements at your local tea house and email me at info (at) digitalshepherds (dot) com and I’ll add you to a list of locations which will be published three weeks prior to the event date. If you wish to be involved, all you have to do is tweet about this event, RT mine or any other dads tweets or posts who are hosting this event and that’s all. Just show up to one of the locations on August 28th and start a new chapter in your bond with the princess in your life.
Ultimately it is my hope that you’ll invite some dads you know who may not have done this type of thing on their own; you know, guys who may be too “macho.” In addition, daughters who might think this type of thing “lame” will be encouraged by seeing other dads and other daughters and be encouraged to strengthen their own communication and relationship. Bottomline, in my mind, we get more daughters and dads better connected means the potential to get more daughters better protected which means, potentially, less boys “sexted” because less young ladies walk around with a deep sense of having been rejected by the most important man in their lives…YOU DAD!
Thoughts?
UPDATE:
Today, we sent out press releases to some of the major television and radio outlets so that we can spread the word about what we’re doing in the hopes that we’ll reach other dads who aren’t on Twitter or Facebook. I would like to take a second here to thank each and every single Tweeter and blogger who has retweeted or helped promote our event in some way. Sometimes the tweets come fast and furious, so if I’ve missed you, please send me an email or DM on Twitter and I’ll add you to the list.
@ProActiveDads, @MochaDad, @MichiganDads, @MomboTV, @Anjuan, @DigitalDads, @CastofDads, @TFL, @CC_Chapman, @Genuine, @SoularPowered, @GoodMenProject, @BloggerFather, @MaryKayHoal, @RaamDev, @JuicyFruit4U, @RoyaleWatkins, @theDaddyYoDude, @RebeccaQuinn, @STYLEMOM, @DadTrends, @PhilipWagnerLA. I would also like to thank all my friends and associates in the news biz who’ve helped get our press release into the right hands so we have a chance at actually getting some coverage. Hopefully, before the day of the event this list grows and I can add more awesome folks to it, as well as have some good news to report about the news reporting on us!
So, for today I have two definite locations where dads will be hosting Tweet Ups. Of course, I’ve already posted on the location I’ll be hosting in Southern California, but here are the links to the map pages of those currently hosting:
Southern California
The Tudor House in Santa Monica. $10 minimum, 12p reservation (Tshaka Armstrong/Digital Shepherds hosting)

Texas
Starbucks in Red Rock- ten tables reserved there from 12-2pm (Mike Berman and Jay Otto, members of All Pro Dad)

I like this idea. That would be a great way to spend some time with my daughter.
Thanks for suggesting it!
Excellent idea ! I’m adding you to my follows and will RT. What an astounding social event this will be! Love the sense that connection with dad will give a young woman inner strength to defend herself too. It’s so much needed.

I think this is a gtreat Idea, especially for those men who ar returning from war. This would be an excellant time for Men to hang with their daughters. I am a firm believer the qualities you posses as a man in raising your daughter(s) are the same qualities that your daughter(s) will look for in man, a potential husband.
I will definitely be their.
